General Atlantic has named former eBay CFO Robert Swan to the post of operating partner.

Swan will help GA’s global portfolio companies as they grow through strategic mergers and acquisitions and develop their finance functions, and will also assist the company’s investment team in the internet and technology sector.

He will be based in General Atlantic's Palo Alto office as part of the company’s Resources Group, according to a press release.

"We are thrilled to have Bob join us to assist our portfolio companies in developing world-class finance organizations," said Bill Ford, CEO of General Atlantic. "Beyond his extraordinary talent as a proven CFO, Bob's deep expertise in the internet and technology sector will make him an exceptional asset to our portfolio companies and prospective new investments around the world.".

Swan was eBay’s CFO for nine years until he left in July and remains on eBay’s board. Before joining eBay, he was CFO at Electronic Data Systems, TRW, and Webvan Group. He started his career at General Electric.

Founded in 1980, General Atlantic managed more than $17.4 billion in assets as of June 30, 2015.
