Feb 5 2016 | 7:36pm ET

ZAIS Group has hired former Dyal Capital Partners executive Gregory Barrett as its head of client relations and business development.

In his new role, Barrett will report to Michael Szymanski, ZAIS’s CEO, and will be based out of the company’s headquarters in Red Bank, New Jersey, according to a statement. He will work with Christian Zugel, ZAIS’s founder and CIO, as well as the company’s client relations team and portfolio managers to create and lead distribution strategies for ZAIS. In addition, he will be responsible for client service to investors.

The appointment, which is effective immediately, was first announced on February 1.

Barrett joins the company with 23 years of industry experience, including capital formation, capital introduction, and entrepreneurial start-ups. Prior to joining ZAIS, he was a managing director at Dyal Capital Partners, where he co-headed the company’s business services platform, and was a senior executive within Barclays Capital Prime Services Group from 2008 to 2012.

"We are pleased that Greg has joined the team to lead our distribution and client service efforts," said Szymanski in the statement.  "His strong understanding of investors, allocators, and consultants in the alternative investment industry and his business development experience make him exceptionally well suited for this role.”

Zugel founded ZAIS Group Holdings in 1997. The company is an investment advisory and asset management firm with approximately $4.2 billion of assets under management focused on specialized credit strategies in both the corporate and mortgage-related structured arenas. It is publicly traded under the symbol ZAIS.
