Well-known financial services law firm Sidley Austin LLP has hired Dominique Padilla Gallego as a partner in its tax practice.

A highly experienced tax lawyer, Gallego advises clients in the asset management and structured finance sectors. She works primarily with hedge funds, private equity funds and other investment vehicles/ventures on a wide range of investment strategies and cross-border issues.

Gallego has extensive experience in U.S. inbound issues related to credit, real estate and other complex investments, according to the company, as well as outbound issues involving investment platforms abroad. She also has deep experience in financial products and structured finance transactions, Sidley said.

Prior to her new role, Gallego was a partner with Ernst & Young, where she focused on integrated global tax planning for asset management clients, including private equity and hedge fund managers, with international offices and/or international investments. Beforehand, she was a partner with Schulte Roth for nine years, and was an associate for Sidley Austin early in her career.

“Dominique is a seasoned tax partner in the investment management and structured finance areas with very impressive experience in the international tax aspects of that practice,” said Laura Barzilai, co-leader of Sidley’s Tax practice. “Her strong skill set will help continue our commitment to provide top-notch tax advice to a broad variety of clients, including asset managers with both U.S. and international platforms.”

Sidley Austin has one of the premier hedge fund legal practices in the world. The firm has advised hundreds of hedge funds and their managers on a full range of legal matters, including legal structure and other formation issues, securities and derivatives regulatory matters, business term alternatives, marketing arrangements, trading documentation, exchange listing, internet usage and tax and ERISA matters.
