Global private equity giant CVC Capital Partners has hired healthcare investment veteran Cathrin Petty as a partner and head of European healthcare.

Petty will be based in CVC's London office, according to the company. She will be responsible for healthcare opportunities pursued by CVC in the region.

Prior to her new role, Petty was head of healthcare in EMEA for JP Morgan. Beforehand, she was a special partner at private equity firms Vitruvian Partners and a partner at Apax Partners on their Healthcare/Life Sciences team.

Petty has also held numerous non-executive positions, including at Britain’s NHS, serving with the Strategic Health Authority for Greater London.

Healthcare has been a focus for CVC over the past several years, with the firm investing €1.6 billion in European healthcare companies.

"We are thrilled Cathrin is coming on board,” said Soren Vestergaard-Poulsen, managing partner at CVC, said in the statement. “She has over 20 years of experience in the European healthcare sector, having worked with both corporation and governments. We look forward to working with Cathrin as we continue to look for investment opportunities across the space."

Founded in 1981 as the venture capital arm of Citigroup, New York-based CVC Capital became independently owned in 1993 and is now one of the world’s largest private equity and investment advisory firms. The firm has secured commitments of more than $71 billion in a number of fund vehicles and completed more than 300 investments for an aggregate transaction value of over $120 billion.
