Harvest Global Investments Unveils First UCITS Fund

Apr 5 2017 | 6:42pm ET

Asian asset management company Harvest Global Investments has debuted a UCITS-compliant sub-fund that will invest in Chinese equity or equity-related securities.

The new fund, named Harvest China Evolution Equity Fund, and will provide investors with access to all Chinese investment channels, according to a statement. This includes

Hong Kong listed securities, China companies listed as ADRs and domestic A-share stocks via the cross-boundary stock connect system linking mainland markets in China with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

The new fund is Harvest’s first international launch and is aimed at capitalizing on structural economic changes. Managed by former Amundi executive Yannan Chenye, who is a portfolio manager and head of China research at Harvest, the fund will invest in companies from China’s “new economy,” including those in technology, alternative energy, and healthcare sectors.

The new fund will implement alpha-driven investment strategy combining bottom-up fundamental research with top-down sector allocation and proprietary risk management to exploit market inefficiencies, Harvest said, taking advantage of quantum leaps in value growth and market access to seize on investment opportunities in both onshore and offshore Chinese equity markets.

The UCITS-compliant fund is currently passported for sale in the UK, Luxembourg, Finland and Switzerland, and will be registered for distribution in other jurisdictions at a later stage.

“The Harvest China Evolution Equity Fund provides investors with exposure to the Chinese equity market with an emphasis on companies associated with new and exciting economic transformations,” said Peter Lindqvist, CEO at Harvest Global Investments UK, in the statement. “Harvest’s parentage and resources give us a strong foothold in China, which provides our investors with an independent and unique insight into Chinese markets and their place in the global economy.

“There is potential for quantum growth in Chinese equity markets which requires local insights and rigorous research to capture,” he added.

Harvest Global Investments is the international arm of Harvest Fund Management Co. and has offices in Hong Kong, London, and New York. The company managed $110 billion as of December 31, 2016, for a wide mix of institutional and individual investors worldwide.
