iCapital Network Hires Ex-BlackRock Tech Vet Fortin For COO Slot

iCapital Network, an online platform that provides streamlined access to alternative investments, has named former BlackRock executive and veteran technology strategist Thomas Fortin as managing partner and the company’s new chief operating officer. 

In his new role, Fortin will be responsible for and be responsible for technology development and the investor services group, the company said in a statement. He will report to iCapital Network’s CEO Lawrence Calcano. 

Fortin joins iCapital from BlackRock, where he was head of retail technology in the BlackRock Solutions group and responsible for the strategy, design, and development of retail sales enablement and digital distribution solutions. He also drove the successful acquisition of FutureAdvisor, iCapital said, and was responsible for the post-acquisition enterprise integrations with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and Barclays Global Investors.

At BlackRock, Fortin was a member of the company’s global operating and corporate risk management committees, and was formerly its chief information officer. Prior to joining BlackRock in 2001, Mr. Fortin spent ten years with Wall Street Systems in the development and implementation of a front-to-back fixed income and FX trading system for global financial institutions.

iCapital introduced its online platform over two years ago and as of March 31, 2017 services more than $2 billion in assets for approximately 3,000 investors across more than 40 private offerings. Its member network is comprised of approximately 1,500 qualified investors and advisory professionals who collectively oversee more than $1.7 trillion in investable assets.

Founded in 2013, iCapital Network is a financial technology platform that provides modular alternative investment solutions for registered investment advisors, broker-dealers, private banks, family offices and other sophisticated investors.
