London-based mid-market PE specialist Cairngorm Capital has appointed former BDO executive Neil McGill to the position of investment director, strengthening and extending the firm’s capacity to pursue new investments.

In his new role. McGill will help advance the company’s differentiated investment strategy throughout the UK, Cairngorm said in a statement. He will also be responsible for the firm’s activities in Scotland.

A seasoned investment professional with over 16 years of M&A experience, McGill joins from BDO where he was head of the M&A advisory practice in Scotland, leading mid-market deals for corporate and private equity clients. Beforehand, he was a director and shareholder in a boutique advisory firm in Edinburgh and spent six years in ABN AMRO’s M&A Advisory team based in London. A chartered accountant, McGill began his career at Ernst & Young.

McGill’s appointment completes Cairngorm Capital’s controlled expansion of its business and investment team, the company said.

“We are delighted to welcome Neil into our team,” said Andrew Steel, managing partner of Cairngorm Capital, in the statement. “He is an M&A heavyweight who is exceptionally well-connected and respected across the investment community. We have worked together on many successful transactions so we know that we have a shared ethos and investment approach.”

With committed equity capital in excess of £180 million following the close of its second fund in April 2017, Cairngorm Capital invests in UK-based mid-market companies in the services, distribution and manufacturing sectors.
