Private Advisors LLC Raises $205M For Debut Real Assets Fund

Alternative investment manager Private Advisors LLC has raised $205 million in capital commitments for its first dedicated real assets fund, beating its target.

The new fund, named The Real Assets Fund, focuses on private natural resources and will invest in small specialist managers and make thematic co-investments, the company said in a statement. It will benefit from Private Advisors’ platform-wide sourcing engine that leverages a stable capital base and the full resources of the firm’s primaries, secondaries, and co-investment teams.

The fund’s investor base spans institutional investors, family offices, and high net worth individuals, including new relationships and long-time clients of the firm’s broader alternatives platform, Private Advisors added. Similar to all funds on the firm’s platform, employees of the company and its parent organization New York Life made meaningful commitments to the new vehicle.

“The natural resource private equity market has evolved dramatically over the last decade, generating new opportunities that are both diverse and increasingly complex,” said Zac McCarroll, partner at Private Advisors and leader of all aspects of the firm’s real assets investment strategy, in the statement.

Founded in 1997, Private Advisors sources, underwrites, structures, and manages investments in small to mid-sized managers and direct transactions across the liquidity spectrum. The company was bought by financial services giant New York Life Investment Management in 2010 and managed more than $4.8 billion in assets deployed across fundamental credit, equity, diversified fund of hedge fund and private equity strategies as of March 31, 2017.
