Wealth data aggregation specialist Private Client Resources (PCR) has named veteran alternatives industry executive Brian Shapiro as senior vice president of product strategy & marketing.

In his new role, Shapiro will be a member of the senior management team overseeing the development of client technology strategies, investments and alliances, the company said in a statement, as well as their execution and communication to clients and the market. He will report to Robert Miller, CEO of PCR.

A 25-year veteran in the alternatives industry focusing on product marketing and development, Mr. Shapiro joins PCR from Simplify, a provider of web-based software and data services to institutional investors, where he was managing member and founder. He was also a member of the founding team of Gapstow Capital Partners, a $1.2 billion  multi-manager and private equity platform focused on credit markets, real estate debt, direct CLO and community bank investments.

Before Gapstow, Shapiro was managing partner of CarbonBased Consulting, a firm he founded in 1998 and ran until its acquisition in 2007. His first software company, DataExchange, was acquired in 1997 by then Advent Software, now SS&C. The software he pioneered at DataExchange eventually evolved into Geneva, one of the hedge fund industry’s most popular accounting systems.

Shapiro is also an operating partner and advisory board member to NES Financial, a Silicon Valley financial technology company with $25 billion in assets under administration, the statement added.

“We have seen a number of data companies come to market claiming they can provide data aggregation services to the wealth management industry,” said Miller in the statement. “However, that may not always include illiquid holdings like alternatives. Brian brings a unique combination of investment product knowledge, technology-driven and operations-focused skills that will strengthen PCR’s existing presence in the alternatives space.”

Founded in 2000, PCR delivers data aggregation, integration, reporting and analytics solutions to deliver the total wealth view critical to the unique needs of UHNW clients, including the consolidation of hard-to-aggregate illiquid holdings, multi-generation wealth structures, complex ownership modeling and custom composite views of their data.
