Skylar Capital Advisers has hired veteran energy trading specialist and former Draxis portfolio manager Brenden O’Neill for its trading desk.

O’Neill will be based at Skylar’s Houston office and joins the firm as a natural gas trader with an emphasis on options strategies, the company said in statement. He joins Skylar with more than 20 years of successful trading experience, starting his career at Koch Energy where he spent his first five years as an engineer in the refining division before transitioning into trading. In early 2006, he co-founded Draxis Energy Management, a prominent Houston based energy trading fund, where he was also a senior portfolio manager responsible for trading natural gas along with other energy commodities.

“We welcome Brenden’s extensive experience, especially his expertise in implementing options strategies across various natural gas market conditions,” said William Perkins III, Skylar’s founder and CIO in the statement.

Founded in 2012 and based in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Skylar Capital Management is the trading manager for energy fund Skylar Capital Energy Global Master Fund. The company employs a fundamental, discretionary and analytical approach to trading liquid energy markets with a focus on North American natural gas. The firm’s founder, William Perkins III, launched Skylar after a 10-year tenure as a senior portfolio manager at Centaurus Energy.
