Jun 2 2017 | 5:36pm ET

Citadel Securities has named former Barclays and NYSE executive Joe Mecane as the company’s new head of execution services.

In his new role, Mecane will lead Citadel Securities' equity, options and exchange-traded fund businesses, the company said in a statement. He will begin in September and report to CEO Peng Zhao.

Prior to joining Citadel Securities, Mecane was global head of electronic equities at Barclays. Beforehand, he was head of U.S. equities and co-head of U.S. cash and listings at the New York Stock Exchange.

This is Chicago-based Citadel Securities’ second senior hire in the last few months. In April, the company hired former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission official Stephen Luparello as general counsel.

Founded in 2002, Citadel Securities is Ken Griffin's market-making firm. It is a leading market maker for equities, fixed income, options, exchange-traded funds and FOREX, executing about 37 percent of all U.S.-listed retail volume.
